Shine On Sisters (SOS), Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in March 2009. SOS operated for it’s first two years under the nonprofit organization Eagle Vision CDC, founded by the head Pastor of Center Of Praise Ministries. In September 2011, SOS formed its own corporation. Shine On Sisters’ inaugural program took place at Martin Luther King Technology Academy in the Twin Rivers Unified School District for nearly three years in the form of a weekly afterschool program.
SOS became a 501 (c) 3 in fall 2013 and is currently collaborating with Capsity, a socially conscious co-working space located at 2572 21st Street, Sacramento, CA 95818
The purpose of Shine On Sisters (SOS) is to provide a safe and supportive environment for underserved girls in elementary, middle, and high school to improve their academic performance, increase their self-esteem and equip them with positive life skills.
Our organization focuses on three areas:
Shine: Personal development
Act: Service in the community
Lead: Leadership in schools, neighborhoods and the global community
Personal development, service in the community and leadership in schools, neighborhoods and the global community are the building blocks of our organization. Shine On Sisters workshop's and program's reinforces these principals through group discussions, field trips, cultural activities, guest speakers and other activities.
